The physics of transport barrier will be a major topic in the workshop. The meeting will be organized in 4 topical sessions, each organized by a session leader, including the following areas of research: transport barriers, turbulence, MHD instabilities and core transport.

  1. Phenomenology of transport barriers (Session leaders: Ulrich Stroth, Kiel University and Arthur Peeters, IPP-Garching)
    1. Role of pressure gradients, poloidal-toroidal flows
    2. Edge transport barriers in tokamaks and stellarators
    3. Do edge and internal transport barriers share a common physics?
    4. Role of rational surfaces to trigger transport barriers
    5. Role of qmin (magnetic shear).

  2. Turbulence (Session leader: Carlos Hidalgo, Ciemat, Spain)
    1. Nature of turbulence
    2. Link between fluctuations and electric field (i.e. zonal flows)
    3. Role of rational surfaces in turbulence: fluctuations and electric fields

  3. MHD stability in the presence of transport barriers (Session leader: Richard Buttery, Culham, UK )
    1. Stabilization of pressure gradient modes
    2. Stabilization of neoclassical tearing modes
    3. Active control of plasma current.

  4. Core transport (Session leader: Giovanni Bracco, ENEA Frascati, Italy)
    1. Similarity and dimensionless scalings
    2. Effects of low aspect ratio and shaping
    3. Perturbative transport
    4. Transport in turbulent plasma.
